Matthew C. Moench is a named partner with King, Moench & Collins. Matthew joined the firm by merging his own successful law practice, Moench Law LLC.
Matthew has made representation of municipal entities and governments a focal point of his practice. He has served as municipal attorney and special counsel to numerous municipalities, providing legal advice on a range of issues. He also represents clients with general litigation, including a focus on election law matters.
Matthew serves as Mayor of Bridgewater Township, a position he was elected to in 2018. Prior to being elected Mayor, Matthew served for twelve years on the Bridgewater Council, including as Council President.
Along with his elected positions, Matthew has a broad array of experience from appointed positions, including as a member of the Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment, Bridgewater Planning Board, Somerset County Planning Board, Regional Center Partnership, and Somerset County Governing Officials Association.
Before establishing his own firm, Matthew was hired by Governor Chris Christie to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for Governmental Relations. In this role, Matthew was in charge of managing relationships with municipal, county, and legislators, along with a team of people that worked for Matthew in the Office of Community and Constituent Relations. Matthew then moved over to a more “legal” role as Assistant Commissioner of Legislation and Regulation at the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. In this role, Matthew managed all of the legislation that impacted the banking, insurance, and real estate industries.
Before serving in Trenton, Matthew practiced at the firm of Bevan, Mosca & Giuditta in Basking Ridge where he split his time between insurance coverage and insurance defense litigation, public sector work, and government affairs/lobbying. Matthew’s practice at BMG was highly focused on all aspects of government: representing government, litigation involving government, and representing clients at all levels of government.
Matthew began his legal career at the national law firm of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, where he worked for five years in the Commercial Litigation Group. Matthew practiced litigation in state and federal court in a wide range of practice areas, including, but not limited to, employment, insurance coverage, insurance defense, products liability, professional malpractice, white collar and criminal disputes, contested guardianship and probate law, antitrust, patent, and complex commercial disputes.
Matthew attended Seton Hall School of Law where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. During law school, Matthew was an associate editor for the Seton Hall Circuit Review, a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court Team, and was a research assistant to then State Senator Robert Martin. Matthew worked for State Senator Kevin O’Toole, who is now the Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Matthew graduated from Rutgers College with a double major in Cell Biology/Neuroscience and Political Science.
