James T. Catania

James T. Catania is an associate based out of King, Moench & Collins LLP’s Morrris County Office. James handles a variety of government law, labor & employment and litigation matters on behalf private and public entities.

Prior to joining the firm, James practiced at a New Jersey firm that specialized in municipal law gaining extensive experience as a municipal attorney and special counsel to numerous municipalities advising on election law, ethics, contracts, resolutions and ordinances, land use and redevelopment, the Open Public Records Act, and Open Public Meeting Act. James is also experienced in handling a variety of matters including complex litigation, government investigations, consumer fraud, Title VII discrimination claims, mediation & arbitration, and more.

Before entering private practice, James clerked in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey for Chief Judge Freda Wolfson (Ret.) and U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Mannion (Ret.). James also clerked for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth County Vicinage for the Hon. Gregory L. Acquaviva. During his time with Judge Acquaviva, the court appointed James as mediator for New Jersey families. In that role, James resolved dozens of family disputes involving issues such as child custody, visitation, and equitable distribution of assets.

During law school, James was an associate editor for the Seton Hall Circuit Review and served as president to Seton Hall Law’s Student Veterans Association. James was also chosen to participate in a nationally recognized access-to-justice program where he represented employees in their Title VII and New York City Human Rights Law discrimination cases before judges from the Southern District of New York and District of New Jersey. James also represented investors in arbitration hearings before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority pursuing investor disputes against brokers-dealers. For his efforts, James was presented with an Assembly Commendation from the New Jersey Legislature.

Before earning his law degree, James served in the United States Air Force as an officer from 2009-2014 with two deployments to Afghanistan and in the California Air National Guard.
